What we are aiming at

The target for this site is the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at level AA. That is the standard normally referenced by accessibility legislation in Ontario, and it is the one we build against. Aiming at it is not the same as certifying against it, so the honest position is that this is a live target rather than a finished audit.

What is built in

• Keyboard first. Every link, button, form field and the before-and-after slider can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and the focus outline is visible rather than removed.
• A skip link. The first thing a keyboard user reaches is a link that jumps past the navigation to the main content.
• Real HTML. Headings run in order, buttons are buttons, links are links, and the frequently asked questions stay in the page rather than being hidden behind JavaScript, so a screen reader can read them.
• Text alternatives. Photographs that carry meaning have descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked as decorative so a screen reader skips them instead of reading a filename.
• Colour contrast. Body text on the cream ground and light text on the dark bands were checked against the AA contrast threshold. The tan accent is used for rules and decoration only, never for body text, because it does not pass.
• Type you can enlarge. Text scales with your browser settings and form fields are set at 16 pixels so a phone does not zoom unexpectedly when you tap into one.
• Forms with visible labels. Every field has a label above it that stays on screen while you type. No field uses a placeholder as its only label.
• Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, the scroll animations and image movements are switched off.
• No autoplaying media. Nothing on the site plays sound or video at you.
• No third-party map embed. The contact page links out to a map rather than embedding one, which keeps the page lighter and avoids an interactive frame that is awkward to navigate by keyboard.

What we know is not finished

• The site has not been tested end to end with JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver by someone who uses them daily. Automated checks are not a substitute for that, and we are not going to claim otherwise.
• Older content carried over from the previous website may not meet the same standard as the pages built here. It is being reviewed page by page.
• Documents and third-party systems that open outside this site are not under our control. We checked the online booking system: it declares its language, every one of its form fields has a proper label, and its images carry alt text. It does not currently provide a page heading, landmark regions or a skip link, which makes it harder to navigate by screen reader than this site is. If it does not work for you, book by phone instead and we will take the appointment that way.

Getting into the clinic itself

The clinic is wheelchair accessible, with step-free access from the parking area into the unit. We are on the ground floor at 444 Holland St W, Unit #2, and parking is in our own lot rather than on the street.

For anything more specific, please call ahead and ask. Somebody at the front desk can tell you exactly what the building is like, and if we need to arrange something for your appointment, a particular room, extra time, or space for a support person or a service animal, we would much rather know before you arrive than after.

If something on this site stopped you doing what you came to do, tell us what page you were on and what happened. We will fix it and we will tell you when it is fixed. A description in your own words is more useful to us than a technical report, so please do not feel you need to write one.
