What it is
What medical weight loss
actually does.
A prescriber-led weight loss program with monthly review, from $195 a month. Run by our nurse practitioner in Bradford, Ontario.
Prescriber-led, not product-led
Weight management medication has changed a great deal in a short time, and so has the way it is sold. A lot of what is now available online is a form with almost no assessment behind it, a prescription, and no follow-up.
Our program is structured the other way round. It is run by Alex Dinovich, FNP-PHC, our Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director, who is an authorised prescriber in Ontario. The prescription is one part of a program built around assessment, monthly review and the parts of weight management that medication does not address.
That distinction is the whole point of coming here rather than filling in a form. Estheticians cannot prescribe in Ontario. A Nurse Practitioner can, and can also recognise when your weight is not the problem that needs solving.
What happens at your first appointment
A full history, including your weight history and what you have already tried. Your current medications and conditions. Relevant blood work. A conversation about your goals and whether they are realistic, and about what you eat and how you move, without a lecture attached.
At the end of that, you are told plainly whether we think this program is appropriate for you. Sometimes the answer is no, and sometimes the answer is that something else should be investigated first.
What the monthly review is for
Dose adjustment, side effect management, and checking that what you are losing is what you want to be losing.
That last point deserves attention. Rapid weight loss without adequate protein and without resistance training costs you muscle as well as fat, and muscle is the thing you least want to lose. We raise this at the start, not after six months, and it shapes the advice you get throughout.
Review is also when we look at the practical problems that derail people: nausea, constipation, appetite so suppressed that you are not eating enough, and the social side of eating differently from everyone around you.
The conversation about stopping
Everyone asks about starting. The more important question is what happens afterwards.
Weight regain after stopping medication is common when nothing else has changed, and we would rather you hear that from us at the first appointment than discover it later. The program is built with that in mind, which is why habits, strength and food are part of it rather than a leaflet handed over at the end.
Who this suits, and who it does not
It suits you if you want a monitored, medical approach with a named prescriber, if you can attend monthly, and if you want honesty about what medication does and does not do.
It does not suit you if you want a prescription with no follow-up, if you are unwilling to attend review, or if your goal is to lose weight from one specific area, which is not how weight loss works. Where a localised pocket is the real concern, fat dissolving injections may be the right treatment instead and we will tell you so.
We do not run this program in pregnancy or breastfeeding, and there are medical histories that rule it out entirely. All of that is assessed properly before anything is prescribed.
If it is wrong for you, we say so before you book again. A nurse-practitioner-led clinic has a licence at stake. That is the whole reason we are careful - and the reason the honest answer sometimes is "not this, and not yet".
Concerns
What it treats.
Every concern below is one we would consider medical weight loss for. Open any of them for the honest version: what actually causes it, and what we would and would not do.
Being straight with you
When we would
tell you no.
Every clinic lists who a treatment suits. This is the other half. If any of these is you, say so at the consultation and we will talk about what else might work, or about waiting.
- You want a prescription with no follow-up. We are not the clinic for that.
- You cannot attend monthly review. We cannot run the program safely without it.
- You want to lose weight from one specific area. Weight loss does not work that way.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding. We do not run this program then.
- You are unwilling to look at protein intake and resistance training alongside the medication.
- You want the medication without the conversation about what happens when you stop.
Who performs it
A nurse runs
the room.
Every treatment in this clinic is carried out by a licensed clinician - never a technician, never someone on a weekend certificate. Your treatment plan is then signed off by Alex Dinovich, FNP-PHC, our Nurse Practitioner & Medical Director, who has more than eight years in injectables, skin health and laser.

How it works
Four appointments'
worth of care.
Nothing here happens on the same visit you first walk in, unless you want it to and it is right for you. This is the order we work in.
- 01
Consult
We look at what is actually bothering you, ask what you have tried, and tell you honestly whether this is the right treatment. Costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
- 02
Plan
Your clinician maps the plan with you and agrees it before you commit to anything. The plan is signed off by our Medical Director before treatment begins.
- 03
Treatment
Your clinician carries out the plan exactly as it was agreed. You are told what is happening, where and why, before it starts - and the quoted price does not change on the chair.
- 04
Review
We see you again to check the result and adjust the plan for next time. The first appointment is the start of the plan, not the whole of it.
What it costs
Where this
treatment starts.
Medical Weight Loss starts at from $195 per month. That is where it starts, not a figure everybody pays: your plan is confirmed in person before anything is booked.
The consultation is free, and the number you are given at it is the number you pay. It does not change once you are in the chair.

Questions people actually ask
Straight answers.
Who runs the weight loss program?
It is run by Alex Dinovich, FNP-PHC, our Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director, who is an authorised prescriber in Ontario. That matters, because weight management medication is prescription medication and it requires assessment, prescribing authority and ongoing monitoring. It is not something an aesthetician can offer you.
What does it cost?
The program is from $195 per month at our Bradford clinic. What is included and what your medication costs are confirmed at your assessment, and we will be clear about the difference between the program fee and any pharmacy cost before you commit to anything.
Is this just a prescription?
No, and a prescription on its own is a poor way to manage weight. The program includes assessment, a plan, monthly review and adjustment, and attention to the things medication does not fix, including protein intake, resistance training and what happens when you stop. If all you want is a prescription with no follow-up, we are not the right clinic.
Am I a candidate?
That is determined at a proper clinical assessment, which includes your history, your medications, relevant blood work and what you have already tried. Not everyone who asks is a candidate, and we will tell you if you are not. We will also tell you if we think your weight change has a cause that needs investigating rather than treating.
Will I lose muscle as well as fat?
It is a genuine risk with rapid weight loss and it is one of the main reasons the program includes review rather than just prescribing. Protein intake and resistance training are discussed from the start, not raised later as an afterthought. Losing weight while losing strength is not a good outcome and we do not treat it as one.
What happens when I stop?
This is the question people ask last and should ask first. Weight regain after stopping is common if nothing else has changed, so the plan includes what happens at the end from the beginning. We would rather have an honest conversation about long-term expectations at your first appointment than at your last.
Does it help with a double chin or stubborn areas?
Weight loss reduces fat generally, but it does not target specific areas, and some pockets are stubbornly resistant regardless of body weight. If a specific area is your concern rather than overall weight, fat dissolving injections may be the more appropriate treatment, and we will tell you which of the two actually fits your goal.
Do I need to come in every month?
Yes, monthly review is part of the program rather than an optional extra. It is how dose is adjusted, how side effects are managed, and how we catch a problem early. If you cannot commit to regular review, this is not a program we can safely run for you.
