Sagging Skin and LaxityWhat it is, and what we can do about it.

Skin laxity is the loss of firmness and elastic recoil that occurs as collagen and elastin decline with age, sun exposure and weight change, causing skin to sit looser along the jawline, neck and body; non-surgical treatment can tighten and thicken skin meaningfully but cannot achieve the same degree of lift as surgery.

02 · The honest version

The honest version
of sagging skin and laxity.

Loose, sagging or crepey skin on the face, neck and body, and the non-surgical treatments that tighten and rebuild it.

A mature woman relaxing during a skincare consultation at the clinic
Sagging Skin and Laxity, as it typically presents. Yours may look different, which is why we assess before we treat.
  • -A jawline that has softened and lost its clear edge
  • -Loose or crepey skin on the neck and under the chin
  • -Skin that no longer springs back when pinched
  • -Fine crinkling on the cheeks, arms or abdomen
  • -Hollowing and sagging appearing together
  • -Makeup settling into creases that were not there before

Every face is different. This page is the general picture. What is actually happening on your skin is something a nurse should look at up close, in clinic light, before anyone recommends a treatment.

Does it get worse? That depends on the concern and on you. It is a reason to start early, not a reason to panic - and we will tell you plainly where you are rather than where a treatment plan would be easiest to sell.

What is actually loosening

Skin owes its firmness to two proteins in the dermis. Collagen provides tensile strength and structure. Elastin provides recoil, the ability to stretch and return. From early adulthood onward, production of both slows, and existing fibres are progressively damaged and fragmented, particularly by ultraviolet exposure.

The result is skin that behaves differently. It sits rather than holds. Pinch the skin on the back of a young hand and it snaps back instantly; the same test at sixty is visibly slower. That change in recoil is skin laxity, and it happens everywhere, though it becomes noticeable first in areas where gravity, movement and thin skin combine.

Where people notice it

On the lower face and jawline, laxity blurs the clean line between face and neck. The jawline softens, and the definition that used to separate the two disappears.

On the neck, skin becomes crepey, horizontal lines deepen, and vertical bands may become visible when the neck is tensed. This area is often more advanced than the face because it is thinner, moves constantly and is protected far less consistently.

Around the eyes and cheeks, fine crinkling appears that is not related to expression, and the skin looks thinner in photographs.

On the body, particularly the upper arms, abdomen and inner thighs, laxity is most obvious after weight loss or pregnancy.

Laxity is rarely the only thing happening

This is worth being clear about, because it drives most disappointing results in aesthetics. A face that looks less firm at fifty than at thirty has usually undergone three changes at once: the skin has loosened, the deep fat compartments have shrunk and descended, and the underlying bone has remodelled and lost some projection.

Treating only the skin in that scenario tightens the envelope over a smaller structure, which is why people occasionally end up looking tighter but not better. An honest assessment separates these out and decides how much of each is contributing before recommending anything.

The treatments we use

Morpheus8 is our primary skin-tightening device. It delivers radiofrequency energy through microneedles to a set depth beneath the skin, heating the dermis and subdermal tissue to provoke both immediate collagen contraction and sustained new collagen production. It works on the face, jawline, neck and body.

PDO threads provide mechanical lift by suspending tissue along a thread path, and they stimulate collagen as the threads dissolve. They suit mild to moderate laxity, particularly along the jawline and midface, and candidate selection matters more here than with almost any other treatment we offer.

Sculptra and Radiesse are collagen biostimulators. Rather than filling a space, they prompt your own tissue to produce collagen over months, which improves skin thickness and firmness rather than simply adding volume. They are often the better answer where skin quality, not just contour, is the issue.

CO2 laser resurfacing works from the surface down, removing damaged tissue in a fractional pattern and driving a strong remodelling response. It improves the skin’s own quality and thickness, and it is particularly useful where laxity and sun damage occur together.

Being straight with you about limits

Non-surgical skin tightening can produce genuinely satisfying improvement. It can also be the wrong recommendation. If your laxity is advanced enough that only surgical removal of excess skin will give you the result you are describing, we will tell you that at the consultation rather than sell you a course of treatments that will underdeliver. That conversation costs us a booking and it is the right thing to do.

04 · What we actually offer

Four things, and
what each one does.

These are the ones we use for sagging skin and laxity. Not every face needs all of them, and we will say so. The goal in every case is the same: treat the cause, not the photograph.

Every plan is personalised. Which of these you need, in what order and how often, is decided after a nurse has looked at your skin - not before. We will also tell you when a treatment is wrong for you, and we say it before you book.

05 · What actually happens

Come in as you are.
Nobody here will
react to your skin.

If you have been putting this off, this section is for you. A consultation costs you nothing and commits you to nothing - you are allowed to walk out having booked absolutely nothing.

  1. Sheli greets you at the front desk

She is the one who answers the phone and the texts, so you will already have spoken to her. No clipboard interrogation in the waiting room.

  2. A nurse looks at your skin properly

In clinic light, up close, with your makeup off if you are wearing any. This is the part people dread and it takes about a minute.

  3. We ask about the history, not just the face

When it happens, what you had noticed before it happened, what you have already tried and what made it worse. Bring your current products if it is easy.

  4. You get a written plan and a real price

What we would do, in what order, and what it costs - including the option of doing nothing yet. If a treatment is wrong for you, we say so here, not after.

  5. You decide in your own time

Nothing is booked in the room unless you want it booked. No deposit, no pressure, no offer that expires on Friday.

06 · Straight answers

Sagging Skin and Laxity, asked
and answered.

The questions people actually ask us on the phone, answered the way we answer them on the phone.

Can non-surgical treatment replace a facelift?

No, and any clinic telling you otherwise is overselling. Non-surgical skin tightening works by stimulating your own collagen and by tightening existing tissue, which produces genuine improvement in skin quality, firmness and definition. Surgery physically repositions and removes tissue, which is a different order of change. For mild to moderate laxity, non-surgical treatment can be an excellent answer; for advanced laxity, it will improve things without matching what surgery does.

What is the difference between skin laxity and volume loss?

Skin laxity is a problem with the skin envelope itself, which has lost firmness and now sits looser. Volume loss is a problem with what is underneath, as fat pads and bone diminish and the face loses its underlying structure. They usually occur together, and treating one while ignoring the other is a common reason results disappoint. Your assessment will look at both.

How does Morpheus8 tighten skin?

Morpheus8 combines microneedling with radiofrequency energy delivered at a controlled depth beneath the skin surface. The heat causes immediate contraction of existing collagen and, more importantly, triggers a wound-healing response that lays down new collagen over the following weeks and months. Because the energy is delivered below the surface, it can treat the deeper structural layer with less impact on the epidermis.

Do thread lifts really work?

PDO threads can produce a real lift, and they also stimulate collagen along the thread path as they dissolve. They suit people with mild to moderate laxity who want more definition without surgery. They are not a permanent solution and they are not a substitute for a facelift in someone with significant excess skin. Whether you are a good candidate is a genuine assessment question rather than a given.

Will losing weight make loose skin worse?

Significant weight loss can unmask or worsen laxity, because the skin that was stretched does not always retract fully, particularly if the loss was rapid or if you are older. This does not mean weight loss is a bad idea. It means the skin side is worth planning for, and it is one reason we discuss skin tightening alongside our medical weight loss programme rather than separately.

Is there anything I can do at home?

Daily broad-spectrum SPF is the highest-value habit, because ultraviolet exposure is a major driver of collagen and elastin breakdown. A retinoid, if your skin tolerates one, has reasonable evidence for improving skin thickness over time. Not smoking matters. Beyond that, topical products cannot reach the depth where structural laxity lives, and claims that they can should be treated with scepticism.

Does skin tightening treatment hurt?

Radiofrequency microneedling is done under topical numbing and most people describe it as tolerable rather than comfortable, with a hot pressure sensation. Thread placement is done with local anaesthetic. Your clinician will talk you through comfort measures and what to expect before you commit, and you can stop at any point.

When will I see results?

Collagen-based treatments work on a biological timeline rather than an immediate one, so the change builds gradually rather than appearing the next day. Some tightening may be visible early from tissue contraction, but the meaningful improvement comes from new collagen laid down over the following months. We photograph consistently so you can see change that is genuinely hard to notice day to day.

Check it yourself.

We would rather you did not take our word for any of this. These are the sources behind what is written above, and none of them are ours.

07 · Often confused, often alongside

Not sure it's
sagging skin and laxity?

Concerns are regularly mistaken for one another - and they rarely turn up entirely alone. These are the ones that sit closest to it.

08 · The next step is small

Let a nurse look
at it properly.

A sagging skin and laxity consultation costs you nothing and commits you to nothing. You will leave knowing what your skin is doing, what we would do about it, and what it would cost - whether or not you book anything.

Book a consultation

Bring three things. Whatever you are currently putting on your face, a rough idea of when it is at its worst, and any questions you have written down. That is genuinely all the preparation we need.

Makeup is fine either way. If it is easier to arrive with it on, arrive with it on - there is a mirror and a cleanser in the room.
