What a neuromodulator actually does
Botox, Dysport and Xeomin all contain botulinum toxin type A. Injected into a specific muscle, it temporarily reduces the signal telling that muscle to contract. The muscle relaxes, and the skin folded over it stops creasing as hard. That is the whole mechanism. It does not fill anything, it does not add volume, and it does not tighten loose skin.
That distinction matters because it decides whether this treatment will do anything for you. Lines that appear when you move, frown lines between the brows, forehead lines, crow’s feet, respond to it well. Lines that sit in your skin at complete rest are a different problem, and often need resurfacing, a filler, or both, alongside a neuromodulator rather than instead of one.
We carry all three brands, and that is deliberate
Most clinics stock one. We stock Botox, Dysport and Xeomin because they behave differently in practice. Dysport tends to diffuse a little more, which can be useful across a broad forehead and unhelpful near a brow you do not want dropped. Xeomin is formulated without the complexing proteins, which some clients prefer if they have had a diminishing response over time. Botox is the most widely studied of the three.
Units are not comparable between brands. If someone quotes you a Dysport price per unit against a Botox price per unit as though they were the same thing, the comparison is meaningless. We quote by treatment area so the number you hear is the number you pay.
Who this suits, and who it does not
It suits you if your main complaint is movement lines, if you are realistic about it being a maintenance treatment, and if you can commit to reviewing the result before deciding whether the dose was right.
It does not suit you if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you have certain neuromuscular disorders, or if the thing bothering you is heaviness and descent rather than creasing. Neuromodulators relax muscle, and some of the muscles in your face are holding things up. Treating a heavy brow with the wrong plan makes it heavier. If we think that is the risk in your case, we will say so at the consultation, not after.
At the appointment
You will be assessed at rest and in motion. Your injector will ask you to frown, raise, squint and smile, and will often mark points on your skin. The injection itself uses a very fine needle, and most people find the anticipation worse than the reality. Nothing is drawn up until you have agreed the plan and the price.
Ontario rules require that the person injecting you is named and identified by their protected title. Our injectors are Registered Practical Nurses, and the treatment plan is signed off by our Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director.
Afterwards
You can usually go back to your day. You will be asked to stay upright for a period, to avoid rubbing the treated area, and to skip heavy exercise and heat for a short while afterwards. Small raised bumps at the injection points settle quickly. Bruising is possible, particularly around the eyes.
The effect is not instant. It builds, which is why we ask you to book a review rather than judging it the same week. If the result is uneven or under-dosed, that review is where we correct it.
If it is wrong for you, we say so before you book again. A nurse-practitioner-led clinic has a licence at stake. That is the whole reason we are careful - and the reason the honest answer sometimes is "not this, and not yet".

Being straight with you

tell you no.
Every clinic lists who a treatment suits. This is the other half. If any of these is you, say so at the consultation and we will talk about what else might work, or about waiting.
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding. We will happily see you afterwards.
- You have a neuromuscular disorder that a neuromodulator could worsen. Tell us at consultation.
- Your complaint is heaviness and descent rather than creasing. Relaxing muscle would make it heavier.
- Your lines sit in the skin at complete rest. Those need resurfacing or filler alongside.
- You have an active skin infection at the injection site. We will postpone until it clears.
- You want a finished result by next week. The effect builds and needs a review.

Nothing here happens on the same visit you first walk in, unless you want it to and it is right for you. This is the order we work in.

Consult
We look at what is actually bothering you, ask what you have tried, and tell you honestly whether this is the right treatment. Costs nothing and commits you to nothing.
- 02
Plan
Your clinician maps the plan with you and agrees it before you commit to anything. The plan is signed off by our Medical Director before treatment begins.
- 03
Treatment
Your clinician carries out the plan exactly as it was agreed. You are told what is happening, where and why, before it starts - and the quoted price does not change on the chair.
- 04
Review
We see you again to check the result and adjust the plan for next time. The first appointment is the start of the plan, not the whole of it.

Questions people actually ask

What is the difference between Botox, Dysport and Xeomin?
They are three different brands of the same class of drug, botulinum toxin type A, and they are not interchangeable unit for unit. They differ in the accessory proteins around the active molecule, in how they are dosed, and in how they spread through tissue. We carry all three, so we choose based on the area, your muscle strength and how you have responded before, not on what happens to be in the fridge.
Is Botox a prescription medicine in Canada?
Yes. Botulinum toxin is a prescription drug in Canada, so it must be assessed, prescribed and administered under the authority of an authorised prescriber. At Bradford Skin Clinic that authority sits with Alex Dinovich, FNP-PHC, our Nurse Practitioner and Medical Director. Anyone offering it to you without a prescriber involved is doing something you should not accept.
How much does it cost?
It is quoted per area at your consultation, because the honest answer depends on how much product your muscles actually need. Two people asking for the same forehead can need very different doses. We give you the full number before anything is drawn up, and you are free to leave without booking.
How long do the results last?
It is temporary and it wears off gradually rather than stopping all at once. We will give you a realistic range for your dose, your muscle and the area treated at your consultation rather than quoting an average that may not apply to you.
Will I look frozen?
Not unless you ask for that, and we will tell you if what you are asking for will read as frozen. Dose and placement control how much movement you keep. If you want to keep expression, say so at the start and we will plan a lighter treatment rather than promising a fully smooth forehead.
Does it hurt?
Most people describe it as a series of quick stings rather than pain. The needles used are very fine. Tell your injector if you are anxious about needles, because pacing the appointment differently helps more than most people expect.
Can I have it if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?
No. We do not treat anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding with neuromodulators. We will also postpone if you have an active skin infection at the injection site or certain neuromuscular conditions, and we will explain why rather than simply refusing.
What if I have had a bad result somewhere else?
Bring the details, including the brand, the dose and roughly when it was done, and we will work out what happened before we treat you again. Sometimes the answer is that we wait for the previous treatment to wear off. We would rather tell you that than inject over someone else's plan.
