Why these are formulated separately
The skin around the eye is thinner than the skin on the cheek and it moves constantly, and the skin on the lip has no oil glands to keep it comfortable. A product built for the face is often either too strong for one or too heavy for the other, which is why this category exists at all rather than being filed under serums and moisturisers.
Retinol is the clearest example. There is a Retinol Eye Gel in this range that is microencapsulated specifically for the delicate under-eye area, and a ZO Intense Eye Creme that uses optical diffusers to soften the look of shadows. Neither is a face retinol applied closer to the eye.

How to choose between the ones above
Decide what actually bothers you when you look in the mirror. For darkness and puffiness together, AluminEye is the daytime option and the Eye Rescue Pads are the cooling, short-notice one. For fine lines and firmness overnight, the Retinol Eye Gel or the ZO Intense Eye Creme. The ZO Growth Factor Eye Serum is the one built on that brand’s growth factor technology and comes with a cooling applicator. LipBoost is the only lip product here.

What a cream will and will not do here
This is where we are most likely to talk somebody out of a purchase. A cream can improve the surface: texture, dryness, fine lines, the look of puffiness. It does not fill a hollow. If the complaint is under-eye hollowing, that is a volume question and it belongs in the dermal filler conversation rather than on a shelf.
It also does not remove loose eyelid skin. Where there is a small, well-defined area of that, it is what Plexr and non-surgical blepharoplasty exist for. We would rather tell you that than sell you an eye cream for it.
The mistake people make with it
Using something too heavy. Occlusive balms and rich creams around the eyes are a common and easily fixed contributor to milia, and it is one of the first things we ask about when somebody comes in with them. If you are prone to milia, this is the category where the formulation choice matters most.

You are starting a retinol around the eye. The same rule applies here as everywhere else in the range: the maker recommends consulting a skincare professional first so the concentration suits your tolerance, and the eye area is the least forgiving place to get that wrong.
